Viterbo University is accepting applications for a Head Women's Basketball Coach.  This is 10 month, full time,  salary position.

Reports to: Director of Athletics

Basketball Responsibilities:

  • Organize and oversee all aspects of intercollegiate athletics team.
  • Recruit high character, hard-working student-athletes to Viterbo University.
  • Plan practices, prepare team for competition, coordinate off-season training program.
  • Schedule competitions, coordinate travel, and manage budget.
  • Monitor and fosters academic progress of student-athletes.
  • Coordinate team involvement with community outreach or service projects.
  • Generate booster club support and assist with departmental fund-raisers.
  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate assistant coaches.
  • Supports and adhere to all institutional policies outlined in the employee handbook.
  • Teach, embrace and live the five core values of the NAIA's "Champions of Character" initiative.
  • Ensure that all program operations are in compliance with Viterbo, NSAA and NAIA rules
  • Attend all required departmental, university, and conference meetings or forums.

Academic Eligibility Responsibilities:

  • Serve as department liaison between the coaches, registrar and faculty athletic representative.
  • Initiate and facilitate eligibility certification process for each team through completion.
  • Work closely with Center for Student Success regarding student-athlete academic progress.
  • Plan annual staff educational session regarding academic eligibility rules and standards.
  • Serve as department contact for student athletes and coaches regarding eligibility questions
  • Review and approve class change requests from student-athletes after certification.
  • Collect and maintain official team rosters of all intercollegiate athletic teams.
  • Attend NAIA webinars, conferences and trainings as related to student-athlete eligibility.

Minimum Requirements: 

Bachelor's degree required.  Background in education, coaching or athletics administration desired.  Experience as a successful high school or college coach preferred.  Proven knowledge and ability to teach skills and fundamentals of the sport.  Strong commitment to the academic achievement of student-athletes.  Good written, verbal and interpersonal skills. Understanding and commitment to Catholic and Franciscan values. Willingness to work flexible hours including nights and weekends.
