Viterbo University is accepting applications for an Assistant Director of Annual Giving.  This is 12 month, full time, salaried position.

The Assistant Director creatively engages benefactors, alumni, friends, parents, faculty, staff and students in a lifelong relationship of philanthropy to strengthen Viterbo University's legacy in the Franciscan tradition. 

Reports to: Director of Development & Major Gifts


  • Manage and refine annual giving benefactor prospect pool.
  • Use metrics regularly to develop strategies for increased President's Society membership and increased alumni giving.
  • Plan and execute individual gift cultivation and solicitation resulting in a minimum of 25 face-to-face contacts/visits each month with potential annual gift benefactors. This includes securing appointments, accompanying solicitors, drafting correspondence and reports, developing proposals and providing follow-up on the detail of each visit into Raisers Edge. 
  • Qualify estate giving prospects.
  • Manage complete annual fund program with focused asks, such as:
    • Phonathon
    • Employee giving campaign
    • Targeted written mail & email solicitations
  • Other tasks as assigned by Director of Development & Major Gifts.
  • Support Viterbo University's management objectives, vision, and Franciscan tradition and undertake all activities in a positive manner.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate degree required.
  • A career history of commitment to the highest professional and ethical standards.
  • A career history of success in fundraising or sales environment with a proven ability to cultivate new relationships and close solicitations.
  • Proven ability to interact with varied constituencies in a professional manner.
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as with staff and volunteers.
  • Facility and proficiency with computer and development software.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the gift opportunities for the university to benefactors in a face-to-face situation and make the "ask."
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally, valid U.S. driver's license.
  • Ability to work occasional weekends, evenings and early mornings.

    • Benefactor engagement events (President's Society events)
