Viterbo University is accepting applications for a full time Simulation Technical Specialist in the School of Nursing in the College of Nursing, Health and Human Behavior. This is 12 month, full time, salaried position.

The primary responsibility of the Simulation Technical Specialist is the administration and operation of the technical aspects of the Clinical Simulation Learning Center in support of its daily functions. The technician assists the Simulation Coordinator and faculty in developing and delivering student learning activities in all of the clinical learning labs.

Reports to: Dean of the College of Nursing Health and Human Behavior

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates a commitment to the philosophy and mission of Viterbo University and the School of Nursing
  • Provides comprehensive technical support for care and maintenance of the Clinical Simulation Learning Center (CSLC) and other clinical learning labs within the School of Nursing
  • Provides technical support for care and maintenance of the Human Patient Simulators, High/Medium/Low Fidelity Simulators, and Virtual Lab stations
    • Provides technical support for the operation and maintenance of related instructional equipment including audio/video distribution systems, computer based programs, and lab medical equipment
    • Serves as simulator operator by programming, testing, and running scenarios with faculty instructors, assuring that the facility and equipment are set up for teaching
    • Assists in the recording of simulated sessions and transferring to archival format
    • Installs software and hardware upgrades and maintains functionality of simulator components as directed by manufacturer support
    • Interfaces with equipment manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and system problems; maintains record of repairs and service
  • Assists in the administration and overall operation of the clinical learning labs
    • Develops and maintains a database of supply inventory, tracks usage, and minimizes costs; ensures accurate and timely procurement of lab resources and supplies
    • Participates in planning and preparation of the lab budget in collaboration with the Simulation Coordinator and Dean
    • Coordinates room and staff scheduling for CSLC
    • Maintains simulation related forms
    • Generates reports related to CSLC activities
    • Collaborates with Simulation Coordinator to maintain CSLC policies and procedures
    • Collaborates with Simulation Coordinator and nursing faculty to write grant proposals for procurement of funds to sustain function of the simulation labs
    • Oversees student lab workers including orienting them to the CSLC, scheduling their work hours and delegating tasks
  • Provides for Student Learning
    • Orients students to the CSLC, Human Patient Simulators, High/Medium/Low Fidelity Simulators, and Lab stations
    • Orients students to equipment used in the CSLC, i.e. IV infusion pumps, Pyxis, headwalls, workstations-on-wheels
    • Orients students to the CSLC Simulation website (access/usage)
    • Ensures student compliance with lab policies, procedures, and safety precautions
    • Has or is willing to obtain certification to help teach CPR to students and staff
  • Other Responsibilities
    • Orients faculty to the CSLC, Human Patient Simulators, High/Medium/Low Fidelity Simulators, and Lab stations
    • Orients faculty to equipment used in the CSLC, i.e. IV infusion pumps, Pyxis, headwalls, workstations-on-wheels
    • Orients faculty to digital audio-video systems (access/operation)
    • Participates in faculty meetings and work groups of the School as requested
    • Participates in professional activities to remain proficient in existing and emerging technologies for integration into the educational process
    • Develops collaborative relationships with faculty and staff within the School of Nursing and the campus community
    • Evaluates and recommends resources and product options related to clinical simulation and related instructional technology
    • Develops collegial relationships with personnel from other organizations
    • Promotes use of CSLC through tours of lab areas, community outreach, and marketing
  • Carries out other responsibilities as delegated or assigned

Education/Experience:

A bachelor's degree in technology preferred with experience in a health related field or a bachelor's degree in a health related field with experience in the use and application of simulation technology. Equivalent experience with simulation lab will be acceptable.

  • At least one year of experience working in the related field (healthcare/technology)
  • Experience working with computer hardware and software applications
  • Knowledge of audio/video equipment and software use
  • Microsoft Office proficiency and skill in database use
  • Ability to learn new technical skills quickly and independently 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent management and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Simulation Coordinator
  • Ability to work flexible hours in a dynamic learning environment
  • Ability to lift equipment as needed
