Viterbo University invites applications for an Affordability Advisor.  This is a part time, 12-month position, working 25 hours per week.

This position is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive financial literacy program in collaboration with the Financial Aid Office.  The advisor is responsible for providing one-on-one support to students and families regarding college affordability. The Affordability Advisor is responsible for providing advice and guidance to students, parents, and other university staff regarding financial literacy programs, personal budget development, debt management, and the effective use of student financial resources available for education.  In addition, the advisor will create partnerships and make referrals to services in the community including financial, tax, food pantries, healthcare, etc.  The advisor individualizes information to the particular needs and situation of the student. 


  • Coordinate a financial literacy program by working collaboratively with campus and community representatives
  • Create communication plan to inform faculty, staff and administrators regarding affordability challenges and supportive resources that are available
  • Serve on the Emergency Fund Committee to help determine student eligibility for disbursement of university funds
  • Participate in accepted student day, STAR, visit days, and new student orientation providing affordability information as needed
  • Implement tracking system to monitor success of services provided
  • Develop a financial resource library and create promotional materials for students
  • Create community partnerships to better serve students and families
  • Develop and maintain a college affordability website
  • Make necessary referrals to other service offices on campus (i.e. Financial Aid and Business Office) and in the community
  • Within FERPA guidelines, provide ethical advice and viable financial options to students and families in various aspects of the college affordability process
  • Provide support to students experiencing family, personal or economic crises that may affect academic performance
  • Focus on identifying unique needs of various student populations and coordinating appropriate affordability services
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and display a positive attitude when interacting with faculty, staff, students, and families
  • Carry out other responsibilities as assigned


  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills required
  • Previous experience working in education, preferably in an advising role or in a college setting.  
  • Ability to work effectively both in a team environment and independently
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience manipulating spreadsheets and database management
