Viterbo University invites applications for a full-time position focused on day-to-day management of the activities of the recently awarded U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, Nursing Workforce Diversity Program Grant entitled "NURSES": Nursing for Underserved Rural Students seeking Educational Success.  The successful candidate will have an appointment in the College of Nursing, Health and Human Behavior and report to the project director of the grant in collaboration with the Dean.  This position is dedicated (100% time) to coordinating the project and will be funded for four years (2017-2021). Responsibilities are to manage and lead the project team, including coordination of advertising, screening, hiring of student workers, creating a communication plan, day-to-day management of the budget, coordination of meeting schedules for advisory board and steering committee, and participation in all grant activities.  The objectives of the grant are as follows:

  1. Increase awareness, interest, and knowledge of the nursing profession, including academic requirements, through customized outreach activities to rural, disadvantaged students in grades 6-12, specifically targeting districts with high Hispanic or low-income populations.
  2. Increase enrollment of rural, disadvantaged students into the BSN program to impact the rural nursing workforce shortage and improve rural health outcomes.
  3. Enroll up to 12 new rural, disadvantaged students in the NURSES program annually and retain 80% of NURSES students to graduation.
  4. Provide financial support in the form of scholarships and stipends to eligible Viterbo University NURSES students.
  5. Enhance cultural competency and the understanding of rural health for all Viterbo BSN students and faculty.

Qualifications: Minimum of Bachelor in Science Nursing degree.  The preferred candidate will demonstrate prior teaching experience, well-developed facilitation and interpersonal skills, and a passion for engaging and helping students.  Experience with diverse populations and rural public health is required.  

Salary: 12 month appointment beginning July, 2017.  Salary competitive with other private, liberal arts institutions of similar size.
